Leaving a legacy
In 1998, First Impulse won the Midwest, Iowa, and Minnesota POA Futurities as a weanling, shown by Leo Haack. In 2000, ridden by Tracy Schonfeldt, First Impulse was High Point JPFC 2 Year Old at the Midwest Regional POA Show at Gordyville, Illinois, and at the International POA Show in Madison, Wisconsin. Placing first under all three judges, Impulse won the prestigious McClaren Futurity class at the International Show as a 2 year old. Impulse was the winner of the JPFC Western Pleasure and English Pleasure at the Midwest POA Club Futurity Show in Wisconsin. He ended the 2000 show season winning High Point JPFC at the National Futurity in Des Moines, Iowa.
After being shown successfully Impulse was retired to use exclusively for breeding. His first foals arrived in the spring of 2002. They are now proving him to be a sire of champions!
First Impulse, a 1998 55 ½” marbelized roan chestnut POA stallion proved himself as a pleasure horse. Bred and raised by Leo and Lee Ann Haack, First Impulse is the only POA stallion sired by AQHA World Champion Jr. Western Pleasure horse, A Sudden Impulse. A Sudden Impulse is sired by the great horse Impulsions and out of Zips Illusion, a World Champion producing daughter of Zippo Pine Bar. A Sudden Impulse proved himself as a sire with offspring winning Western Pleasure at the Congress, World, and Futurities.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of First Impulse but are extremely proud of the legacy he has created. In 2018 First Impulse was inducted into the POA Hall of Fame; we are extremely honored by this award. We look forward to continuing his winning legacy with the wonderful broodmares from his bloodline. If you are serious about being part of a quality pleasure horse program contact Leo and Lee Ann Haack to find your next champion.
